The 5 T’s of Mosquito Proofing Your Yard

Mosquito Squad of Louisville is your best choice for eliminating mosquitoes on your property. But we can’t do it alone. We need your help. Together we can lower the mosquito population in the area for everyone to enjoy. To do that, we need everyone to make sure their yard is not inadvertently providing a perfect habitat for mosquito population growth. Mosquitoes need a fresh water source for laying eggs. This source provides nourishment for larval mosquitoes to grow and become adult mosquitoes. We have created the 5 T’s of mosquito control to help you remember how to discourage mosquito reproduction in your yard.

1. Tip

There are many little items around your property that can hold enough water for mosquito reproduction. Anything that can collect a bit of rain or sprinkler water should be tipped over. Things like kid’s toys, dog bowls, planters, and watering cans are a perfect habitat for mosquito eggs, larva & pupa.

2. Toss

Keep your yard free of excess leaves, grass and other debris. Clogged gutters and bottle caps hold plenty of water for a mosquito to lay eggs.

3. Turn

Large items that are meant to hold water need to be emptied out regularly and turned over when not in use. Items like baby pools, sandboxes and buckets should be covered, tucked away or turned over. If you have a bird bath, be sure to empty and clean it out every few days to make sure mosquito eggs, larva and pupa are not growing.

4. Remove Tarps

Tarps should always be checked to make sure they are taut. If they are not staying taut, they are holding water. Remove tarps completely if stretching them taut is not possible.

5. Treat

Call Mosquito Squad of Louisville to get the right mosquito control for your property. Our traditional barrier spray eliminates up to 90% of the mosquitoes on your property. Or choose from natural mosquito spray and mosquito misting systems if you require an alternative solution.

Don’t forget, mosquitoes are more than just a little annoying, they are carriers of many dangerous diseases such as Zika, West Nile Virus, Malaria, Encephalitis and more. Call today to sign up for mosquito control in Louisville 502.315.9097.
